Tuesday Talks continue with different topics and guests every week. The program, organized for the purpose of informing and training Altındağ Municipality personnel, is greatly appreciated by the participants. This week, Altındağ District Agriculture and Forestry Director, Food Engineer Alper Koçaker informed the participants about "Food and water waste". Koçaker made a presentation that answered the questions on everyone's mind, such as "What does safe food mean, what should we expect from food and how to ensure food safety?"
"THE MOST WASTE FOOD IS BREAD..."
Stating that Türkiye is currently self-sufficient and an exporter of many products, Koçaker said, "However, the issue that threatens the whole world right now is hunger... According to the UN, the number of people facing hunger in the world is 735 million... This reveals how important food waste and the correct use of existing resources are." Emphasizing that bread is one of the most wasted foods, Koçaker underlined that attention should be paid to bread consumption and stale bread should be used.
Koçaker emphasized the dangers of food waste by saying, "Approximately 1.3 billion tons of food is wasted every year in the world and 18.2 million tons in our country. We waste approximately 51 thousand tons of food daily. With every food we waste, we also waste water, soil, labor, energy and time."
"THE WORLD IS UNDER THE THREAT OF WATER SHORTAGE..."
Touching on the vital importance of water waste, Koçaker said, "Currently, the world is under water stress... We are a country that spends 1323 cubic meters of water annually. I would like to emphasize that we are approaching water scarcity as a world, and every drop of water we save is now of vital importance." Koçaker then informed the participants about what needs to be done to prevent food and water waste.
