“WOMEN CONTRIBUTE TO THE FAMILY BUDGET”
Providing information about the carpets in the exhibition, master instructor Raziye Başeğmez said, "We are trying to keep our cultural heritage alive. We teach the women of Altındağ to weave carpets in our workshop. After weaving the carpets, our ladies get rewarded for their handicrafts. Ladies who receive training in the courses both socialize and contribute to their family budgets. Our ladies are very happy about this... Since the carpet is woven with real wool, it gives positive energy and makes us feel a good feeling. Our Mayor Veysel for offering us these opportunities. "We thank Tiryaki very much," he said.
Başeğmez gave the following information about the weaving process of a carpet:
"When weaving a carpet, the pattern is first measured. The warp and threads are adjusted according to the pattern. After the warp is unraveled, the process we call the rag foot begins. It is then woven in the form of a knot. After weaving the knots, we thread the threads, which we call the lower thread and the upper thread, and tighten them. The density of the threads determines the quality and beauty of the carpet. Our highest quality carpet is the silk carpet. The number of threads of the silk carpet is much higher than the others. Carpet and rug weavings are different from each other. Carpets are knotted, while rugs only have threads tangled together.”
“I WOULD LIKE TO THANK OUR MAYOR FOR HIS SUPPORT FROM US”
Yasemin Güler Çimen, a member of Alemdağ Women's Education and Culture Center, who attended the carpet weaving workshop, said that she has been carpet weaving for 4 years. Çimen: "I attended the carpet weaving course through my friend. It frees up our minds and provides us with additional income. We have a very nice environment in the course. We also protect our cultural heritage. In the past, people used to make motifs to express their problems. We reflect our joy and sadness on our carpets while weaving. I can give pocket money to my children and meet my own needs. I would like to thank our Mayor of Altındağ, Veysel Tiryaki, for his support." he said.
