Altınköy Open Air Museum, which brings the village life of 100 years ago to the city in Ankara, hosted another colorful event. The sheep shearing ceremony, held every year in Altınköy Square, took place this year as well. The traditional sheep shearing event started early in the morning. Afterwards, the wool of the sheared sheep was washed and combed. The wool, which was left to dry after washing, was shredded one by one. Additionally, dough was kneaded in the village square. The women cut noodles and folded manti at the same time. The people of Ankara showed great interest in the events.
“WE KEEP OUR CULTURAL HERITAGE ALIVE”
Altındağ Mayor Dr. said that they carried out the sheep shearing process, which is a tradition in Anatolia, in the city center of Ankara. Veysel Tiryaki said, "When we opened our Altınköy Open Air Museum, we aimed to introduce these beauties to our children, who have never seen village life and traditions. When we look at the interest shown by our children in our event today, we see that we have achieved this goal. This makes us very happy."
Stating that it is a tradition to shear sheep in villages every year when temperatures increase, Mayor Tiryaki said, "This time, the sheep shearing time coincided with the holiday. In other words, we shaved the sheep for the holiday. The participants both had joyful moments and had the opportunity to see the ancient traditions of our Anatolia closely. We will continue such events and continue to keep our cultural heritage alive and pass it on to future generations."
Mayor Tiryaki invited all children to explore Altınköy Open Air Museum.
