A new one has been added to the souvenirs exhibited in Ulucanlar Prison Museum, one of the most important stops of Turkish political life. The "Erika" brand typewriter, which was given as a gift to former prime minister Bülent Ecevit, nicknamed "Karaoğlan" in Turkish politics, in his childhood, began to be exhibited at the Ulucanlar Prison Museum. The typewriter, which Bülent Ecevit used for nearly 70 years and donated to the Middle East Technical University Science and Application Research Center in 2003, was placed on temporary display in the museum. Ecevit's typewriter attracted great attention from visitors from the first day it was exhibited. Bülent Ecevit's cap and tie, which are almost synonymous with him, from the period he was imprisoned in the Ulucanlar Prison Museum, are also exhibited in the Ulucanlar Prison Museum. “ULUCANLAR PRISON MUSEUM IS VERY IMPORTANT IN TERMS OF OUR RECENT HISTORY…” Reminding that personal belongings of poets, writers, politicians and statesmen who were in prison in the past are exhibited in Ulucanlar Prison Museum, Altındağ Mayor Dr. Veysel Tiryaki said, "This typewriter, which Bülent Ecevit personally used for many years, more than 70 years, on which he wrote his own articles, and which was given as a gift by a close relative when he was a student, was transferred from the Middle East Technical University to our prison museum for a period of 6 months. It will meet with visitors here for a while. I would like to thank those who contributed and entrusted this typewriter to us." Tiryaki stated that Ecevit is an important name that stands out not only with his identity as a politician but also as a poet and journalist, and underlined that it is very meaningful for an item that reflects his versatile personality to be exhibited at the Ulucanlar Prison Museum. “ULUCANS CARRY IMPORTANT TRACES OF OUR RECENT POLITICAL HISTORY” Pointing out the importance of Ulucanlar Prison Museum in terms of recent political history, Mayor Tiryaki said, "This museum is a very important place in terms of carrying important traces of our recent political history... Citizens who will come to visit here have a lot to learn here. We think we have done a good job by preserving this place and turning it into a museum. There is a very high demand, it is a place that attracts a lot of attention... Of course, some of it is used for cultural purposes. By preserving these structures in a cultural sense, we carry out some activities in the name of culture and art." Mayor Tiryaki called on all citizens to visit the Ulucanlar Prison Museum and see the traces of political history closely.
